GoAir appoints former Spirit Airlines executive Jyri Strandman as Chief Operating Officer

Wadia group-owned low-fare airline GoAir Wednesday named former Spirit Airlines executive Jyri Strandman as its chief operating officer. He will report to managing director Jeh Wadia and be part of the airline’s core management team.

Strandman will be responsible for strengthening flight operations, engineering, airport, security and airside operations (ASA), flight safety, inflight services and integrated operations control center, the airline said.

Strandman, who has worked in the aviation sector for over 30 years, was director (operations) and vice-president (flight operations) at US-based low-fare airline Spirit Airlines. Previously, he had worked with various airlines including Virgin America and American Eagle Airlines.

Wadia said, “I am extremely delighted to have Jyri on board. His three decades of aviation experience will play a vital role in further enhancing our growth and enhance GoAir’s operating efficiencies and profitability.”

Strandman said it was a great feeling to be part of GoAir, in one of the fastest growing aviation markets in the world. “I look forward to the many challenges that come with this ever burgeoning market and expanding operations of the airline. I am excited at the prospect of making GoAir the preferred choice of airline for customers.”
