Fire crews rushed to Sydney Airport this morning after a chemical leak from the hold of an American Airlines plane.

A ‘low irritant chemical’ was discovered as baggage handlers unpacked flight 73 from Los Angeles Airport which landed at 7.15am.

Authorities searched the plane and found the leak had come from a container in the hold.

The clean up was successful and no-one was hurt. Authorities have submitted the chemical – which was reportedly in white powder form – for forensic testing to work out what it was.
